This week, we continue the beginning of the week in this cloudy/rainy pattern. The low pressure system located over the Great Lakes continues to stay almost stationary until Monday. It will begin to move eastward toward the coast which is why the chance of rain increases on Monday afternoon. By Tuesday, the low will be to our southeast over the Atlantic Ocean as it begins to stall again as a stationary front. A high pressure system will set up over Nova Scotia on Tuesday afternoon which will keep most rain to our south and west through Friday. A new cold front will approach our area from the west Friday night along with Hurricane Matthew. Although Hurricane Matthew will likely bring us some rain, the cold front should push Matthew out over the ocean before getting far enough north to hit the city. I’ll make updates whenever I can, especially if Matthew’s storm track changes a lot but until then, enjoy your week!
Update: Although Matthew won’t impact our area, I mentioned it before, and wanted to give an update on its likely path. Matthew is getting ready to slam the southeast coast of the states including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. As of right now, Mathew will likely hug the coastline with about a 85% chance of making landfall in Florida early Friday morning. On Saturday, once Matthew is around the Carolina borders, it will be pushed out to sea slightly by the cold front that will bring the NYC area some rain. Matthew will likely weaken to a tropical storm by Monday morning, but because of Hurricane Nicole who is farther out to sea, Matthew will likely circle back down toward the Florida coast. Although Matthew will be much weaker if it hits Florida a second time, winds could still be around 30-40 mph which could bring small storm surges, especially to places that were just hit and weakened.
